It’s a good way to finish the year.”

One which has seen the Stella Maris student impress not only on the local scene but also in various contests around the country.

Sophia is currently in the top 10 of the Australia-wide GromSearch Series heading into the final event at Cronulla next month.

“Hopefully I can get to the semis or the final there and finish strong,” she said.

“If I can do that I could get into the top five in Australia which would be fantastic.”

Sophia credits much of her success this year to working with former professional surfer Christo Hall.

“He gives me tips about my surfing and how I can improve,” she said.

“And I’ve improved a lot, especially my turns. The 18’s will be a real tussle and that was the case on the day with Jesse Francis 2nd , Bodhi Atkinson 3rd , Mac Clayton 4th , Tyson Bruun 5th and Eddie Sherwood 6th.

Other winners on the day included Jacob (14’s), Daniel Craig(12’s), Sophia Bernard(16’s Girls), Jan Bruun(B grade), Bonnie Hall (Women’s) .

Any way , please if we can get some support to the beach for both the Women’s surf tag and the O’Neil Grom tag it would be great the Women’s is on this Sunday 29th at Curly with the Grom’s on at Avalon on Dec 13th

See Ya some hey

Dimmy

NSB LOOKING FORWARD TO A BIG YEAR IN THE TEAMS EVENTS

NSB members should be getting excited ,with the club looking for some big results in a series of upcoming team’s event.

We would like to, get everyone involved in every event we compete at and to make sure that we have a strong support base for those competing.

This club has only been going a tad over 10 years but in that time we have become one of the strongest clubs in the country. display: block; height: 284px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" />

It might have been unseasonably chilly for October but the cold weather didn’t stop the masses from enjoying what was a fantastic start to the new season at North Steyne Boardriders .

A host of new faces , joined seasoned campaigners in taking on the great waves that rolled into the Carlton street line-up and it must be said it had that new season vibe to it as everyone searched for that good result to kick start the year.

After a frantic start to the day in which the rego’s were sorted and everyone purchased their new NSB Jumper, which I might add came in handy with the weather, it was game on as all divisions went for broke.
The standout was the Under 18’s Boys, the way these guys surfed was awesome, in fact it seemed like everyone had improved by a great margin and it was apparent in the way they posted some big scores.

Jesse Francis, Nathan Munro, Mac Clayton led the way in the early heats and it was no fluke the trio made the final of the division. The surprise packed was pocket rocket Jack Morrison , the natural-footer has claimed a number of club titles over the years and even though he is surfing against guys much older than him in his first year of the 18’s he was outstanding climbing his way into the final.

The final saw a real shootout. Nathan and Jesse got off to flyers but it was Munro who grabbed a great score of 7.5 on a nice right hand peak that ran to the beach that took home the win from a much improved Jesse with Mac 3rd and Jack 4th.

Munro does need to work on his speeches though, ask for a comment on the win his response was ‘’’Cheers’’ .

The Opens Men were also ultra impressive with Beau Mitchell , Max Brokman , Dave Hislop, Billy Langley and Luke Ashley all fighting their way into the final.

The heat kicked off in frantic style with a three wave set pumping through, Dave took the first, throwing a heap of spray on his way down the line on a solid left. Splitting the peak was Max who also smashed some solid turns on the right but the best of that exchange came from Beau who unleashed a series of radical turns in only a way Beau can.

That 7.5 from the goofy-footer was the bench mark of the final. The ex professional than went to work on the inside looking for the sealer that would give him the win and it didn’t take long for him to grab a 5.5 as his back up to take the win and the $100 cash.

Max held onto 2nd until the final seconds when Dave grabbed a nice right going to work and the 6.0 ride pushed him in the runners up position leaving Max 3rd , Luke 4th and Langers who didn’t turn up for the final in 5th. Nice start boys.

Other winners included Peter Long in the Under 14’s Boys, with the smiling assassin, posting an impressive first up win. Peter wasn’t feeling the best ,in fact he went home such was his sickness but the lure of the waves and competition dragged him back in time for his heat and I’m sure he is stoked he did return as he blasted some big turns in his way to victory . Luka Couriel also surfed great placing 2nd with Benny Penny 3rd and Cullum Mooney 4th. Looks like we are in for a great year in that division.

Not to be out done, the girls came out to play and nice to see such a strong turn out in the opens women’s. We have a field of 5 take to the water and leading the charge was stylish natural-footer Paige Houden , who looked in great form after a strong pro junior series. She posted two solid rides to claim the win from Lauren Mc Aller 2nd, Jesse Horin 3rd, Sam Walker 4th and Bonnie Hall 5th..

Lauren also contested the 16’s girls and she was outstanding claiming a great win from Jodi Randall and Tori Levett. It’s important that we continue to grow these girls’ grades, so keep turning up ladies.

The mini grommets in the 12’s Boys, took some big spills in the 3-4 feet waves but these kids have guts and never let that fazed them as they went for it and in the end it was Jamie Krupps who took home the spoils of victory but he had to work hard with Toby Jones 2nd , Kyle Levett 3rd and Daniel Greig 4th.

To round off the day , we saw a spirited final from the old boys , Adrian Mc Gregor laid some impressive rail as he scores 12.5 out of 20 , included a 7.0 point ride, Maybe this man should be in the opens. The teddy tubby man, Andy Bullman surfed with the power that only that arse could push claiming a great 2nd place with Ronnie Wong 3rd , Ben Saunders 4th , Dazza Speight 5th and Wazza Randall 6th.

So there you have it, a nice way to start and thanks to everyone who helped out on the day. See you on Saturday the 14th of November 8am .

#Note , there are new rules that will apply this year.

Every competitor will need to judge each contest day.

There will be a folder that myself or Beau will have, that folder has each division’s members in it. After you have judged two heats, get your name marked off. Fail to do so will mean you do not get your points for that contest.
